What is Communion about?

The teaching presents Communion as far more than a ritual. It traces nine connected themes through Scripture and invites believers to remember Christ, recognise the body, examine themselves, worship and come together in unity.

The heart of the teaching

Communion looks back to the cross, celebrates the new covenant in Christ’s blood, proclaims the Lord’s death, and points believers toward shared life as one body in Christ.

Study slowly: read the references in your own Bible, pray through each theme, and allow Scripture to shape both personal faith and fellowship with others.

1. Passover & Last SupperBeginning with Exodus and the meal Jesus shared with His disciples.
2. Blood CovenantThe cup is presented as the new covenant in Christ’s blood.
3. RemembranceRemembering the crucifixion and Jesus’ command to do this in remembrance of Him.
4. Victory of the CrossProclaiming Christ’s victory over sin and death.
5. IdentificationConsidering what it means to identify with Christ and His words.
6. Church / BodyRecognising believers as one body in Christ, sharing in the bread and cup.
7. CelebrationCelebrating grace, reconciliation, mercy and salvation through Christ.
8. Unity of PurposeComing together without division, caring for one another as members of one body.
9. Worship & ThanksgivingReceiving the bread and cup with gratitude, reverence and self-examination.
