Trauma & PTSD

A safe and understanding space for triggers, painful memories, fear in the body and emotional wounds. Healing does not have to be rushed, and support does not have to be faced alone.

Safety before pressure

You are allowed to go slowly

Trauma can affect thoughts, emotions, sleep, memory and the nervous system. Triggers may feel sudden and physical. These reactions are not weakness; they can be the body trying to protect you after something overwhelming.

Ground

Look around and name where you are, what day it is and five things you can see. Remind yourself that the memory is not happening now.

Reduce pressure

Move somewhere quieter, lower stimulation and avoid forcing yourself to explain everything while overwhelmed.

Seek safe support

Speak with a GP, trauma-informed therapist, trusted person or support service when symptoms are persistent or disruptive.

What trauma may feel like

Triggers and memories

Flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive memories or strong reactions to sounds, places, dates or situations.

Body responses

Shaking, freezing, racing heart, numbness, tension, feeling detached or constantly alert for danger.

Daily life

Avoidance, sleep difficulties, irritability, guilt, relationship strain or feeling disconnected from yourself.

Scripture for safety

God is present in the place of fear

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
Psalm 46:1

A prayer for trauma and emotional wounds

Lord Jesus, meet me in the places that still feel unsafe. Bring steadiness to my body, gentleness to my memories and wisdom for the support I need. Help me move at a safe pace and remember that I am not alone. Amen.
